| The theme for Fall term 2024 is Birds in MYTH. .” A fascination with feathered, flying creatures is found in every culture, though sometimes a type of bird will have widely varied significance. The raven, for example, is changed from white to black. Greco-Roman myth because of its garrulity, but among indigenous Americans it is a trickster hero greatly venerated. Not only real birds, but fantastic ones, such as the phoenix and the roc, find their way into tales. We will begin with birds from Greco-Roman stories told in Ovid’s. | |
